On a road trip towards the Mediterranean

I travelled with Álex by car, crossing the peninsula until we reached the Mediterranean. Road, music and long hours of changing landscapes.

There we met up with David and Taco, who welcomed us as if we were at home. Between hikes, good food and plenty of activity, we spent lively days discovering their region and everything that makes it so special.

Between the sea, the mountains and a horizon full of villages

We explored Teulada, Moraira, Benitatxell, Alicante, Elche, Altea, Calpe… A coastline where the mountains almost drop straight into the sea, and where the scenery is as spectacular as it is full of houses climbing up the slopes. We visited two iconic works by the architect Ricardo Bofill, with their intense colours and impossible geometries.

Mediterranean towns

Narrow streets, colourful façades and the sea always appearing in the background. Small harbours, viewpoints and stretches of coast blended with steep mountains. A mix of Mediterranean calm and constant life.

The wildest coastline

Here nature rules: hidden coves, dramatic cliffs and a Mediterranean that fills everything. We visited Cala and Falla del Moraig, the Cova dels Arcs, the surroundings of Cape San Antonio, Torre d'Or and the Cova de les Cendres. A rugged landscape of bare stone, where the Mediterranean feels far wilder than it looks from afar.

Coastline and cliffs

Paths leading to viewpoints, natural cracks opening into caves, and a deep blue sea contrasting with the pale rock. Places where wind, light and terrain shape dramatic scenes, yet surprisingly peaceful when the evening comes.

Bolbaite and its turquoise river

A beautiful stretch of river, hidden between rock walls and pools of crystal-clear water. We walked around the area, exploring walkways, small weirs, natural terraces and corners full of dense vegetation. It’s a very different landscape from the coast: more enclosed, fresher, with the charm of rivers running through inland towns.

Pou Clar

Pou Clar and its pools between stone walls

We ended the trip at Pou Clar, a series of linked pools inside a narrow gorge. The water is so clear it looks like glass, and the surrounding rock walls create a very photogenic landscape. Even without swimming, walking through the area and watching how the light changed between the canyon walls made the visit completely worthwhile.
